Tolt Pipeline Trail – Equestrian, Hiking and Mountain Bike Trail

Residents of Seattle’s Eastside delight in the availability of the popular Tolt Pipeline Trail for all of their outdoor recreational needs. The trail attracts a variety of fitness enthusiasts as well as casual walkers looking to get outside and connect with Mother Nature in a tranquil setting

Location of  Tolt Pipeline Trail

The trail is 100-feet wide in most sections and winds around for 12 miles following the Tolt Pipeline. This community gem starts at Blyth Park in Bothell and travels through Woodinville before meeting up with the Snoqualmie Valley Regional Trail located near Duvall. The well-traveled hiking and biking trail is maintained by King County and is part of their wide network of regional trails.

One popular section of the trail is known as Heart Attack Hill because of its steep incline. This part of the trail is located in the Woodinville portion, beginning at the Sammamish River paved trail and continuing up the hill until you reach the steep descent to arrive down in the Sammamish Valley.

There are a few public lots that trail users can use for their parking needs. Options include a lot located along Avondale Rd NE and Bearcreek Rd NE in Woodinville, a lot along 148th Ave NE just north of the Hollywood Hill Schoolhouse area, and a variety of roadside parking spots located along 124th Ave NE. There is no cost to use the trail.

Features and Conditions of the Tolt Pipeline Trail

This multipurpose trail contains both paved and unpaved portions, consisting of a mixture of double-track access roads, single-track, paved trail, and dirt roads. While the trail is accessible all year long, the current weather can greatly affect the conditions of the trail. Although snowfall is not common in the region, the Tolt Trail can become icy during inclement weather. The consistent rain of the Seattle area also causes the trail to tend to get muddy during the wet season.

The moderately-trafficked trail delivers exceptional views as it rises and drops through these scenic Seattle suburbs. The varying degrees of incline makes it a good choice for a variety of activities and skill levels. A balance of semi-wooded valley and densely-wooded sections provide for a mix of shade and sun along the trail. Animals to look out for include woodland birds, deer, and even bears.

Uses of the Tolt Pipeline Trail

The trail is used for a variety of activities, including running, hiking, and mountain biking. Be sure to keep your dog on a lease because you never know what kind of wildlife you may encounter while out exploring the area. This trail is also popular with equestrians.
